By following some simple rules for the care and maintenance of your painting it will retain
its original beauty and give you many years of enjoyment.
1. Hang your painting in a place that does not get direct sunlight and is not subject to
temperature extremes of hot or cold.
2. Avoid rough handling or touching the surface of your painting with sharp objects.
3. Hang your painting away from areas of heavy family traffic or near drafts where it could
be brushed or knocked from the wall.
4. Applying solvents or cleaning agents or any liquid containing alcohol to the surface
of your painting may ruin the surface or fade colors.
In most cases, a gentle dusting of your painting’s surface on a regular basis with a very soft,
dry brush is sufficient to keep it clean and bright and prevent a buildup of dust, smoke or
mildew. Before each dusting, check to be sure that there are no cracks or flakes and no paint
appears ready to peel off the canvas.
If cleaning becomes necessary
If the surface of your painting becomes sticky or oily, you may want to take the cleaning a step
further. Proceed with caution, using fresh clean cotton cloths dipped in a solution of mild dish
soap and warm water. Lightly blot the surface without scrubbing, wiping or rubbing the painting.
Use a minimum of liquid as too much could damage the oil paints.
The cleaning process should be slow and gentle, changing cloths frequently. It is a good idea to
clean a test area on the side of the canvas first to be sure your cleaning method does not damage
the paint. Please note that this cleaning process should be applied only for oil paintings.
Before starting any cleaning process, take some good photos of your oil painting so in the event
that damage does occur for any reason you will be able to purchase a replacement painting based
on the photos you took.
Our paintings are made to last, and with a minimum of care and maintenance you and your family
will enjoy yours for many years to come.
