Family Portraits – Dos and Don’ts |
 |
Family portraits are a great way to record the history of your family and the people that are within it for generations to come. However, there are things that you should do and things that you should not do when creating family portraits, especially if you are having them painted by us. If you follow these dos and don’ts, you are guaranteed to have a much better chance of producing family portraits yourself that can be converted into real painting or sketch form and enable us to give you that look that is totally professional and even timeless, paintings and sketches that you will be proud to give as gifts or hang on your wall to display to others. Family portraits work best if you do not put groups of people too closely together, but at the same time, do not let them stand or sit too far apart as some families are prone to do. Have your family stand shoulder to shoulder, but with their shoulders overlapping at different angles, giving that sense of togetherness, as well as having older folk sitting in chairs and everyone’s clothing appearing to be coordinated, not so different that the image will look dishevelled. Take a photo shot of the group, but ensure no one is blinking. Use that photo to create your family portrait in painting or sketch form by using a computer program to make any adjustments before you upload the final photo to our site for us to work on. Before you snap your photo for the painting or sketch, get everyone smiling naturally, not forcing it. This can be done by telling a humorous story or even a good joke that everyone, including the elderly members of the family will appreciate. Family portraits should look as natural as possible. Picking a day when some family members are having a bad day is just not going to give you the shot for a sketch or painting that you really will appreciate. Remember that the purpose of family portraits is to show unity, togetherness, happiness, strong bonds and the generations, something that we are proud to help you with. family portraits
