In November 2019 my great grandmother passed of lung cancer. I delivered my daughter Grace a month later in December of 2019, which would’ve been our 5th generation. A few hours before my great grandmother passed, the last thing she said to me was concerning the baby. My great grandmother was extremely dear to my grandfather, he was her firstborn of 5 children. I found @paintyourlife.com on Facebook and reached out to them about recreating a younger photo of my great grandmother and a recent photo of my daughter, hand-painted to gift to my grandfather for his birthday. My husband was only 5 years old when his mother passed away in a tragic car accident 45 years ago. She was on her way to pick him up from school, but never made it. He doesn’t have any photos of him and her together. So...Kayleigh never met her grandmother, Ruth Ann Kilpatrick, who died of breast cancer before Kayleigh was born. Kayleigh wrote this when she got the painting, "anyone who is close to me knows that my biggest wish in life is that I could’ve met my Dad’s mom, Ruth Ann Kilpatrick. she died of breast cancer before I was born, which is why the fight for a cure is so near and dear to my heart. I know that things would be different if she were here and I miss her every day. Gran, my mom’s mom, always talks about how much my Grandma Ruth would have loved us. she and my grandfather have always gone above and beyond to fill the void in my heart with their endless support and love. my aunt Brandi and uncle James took it upon themselves to have a picture of her and a picture of me painted into one. I can officially say that not only do I have a picture with my grandmother but she was present with me at my graduation. This means the absolute world to me."
